Legendary DJ and producer Mr Dibbs has been having serious medical conditions this year. Last
month he was diagnosed with Cirrhosis which is the scarring of the liver
and poor liver function. It is the final phase of chronic liver
disease.
He is no longer able to work being that he is in and out of the
hospital too much. In just a month, having no insurance, his medical
bills have reached over $485,000. Please, if you can spare it, any
amount would help.

Soul Survivor by Pete Rock is hands down one of my favorite albums. It's just ill track after ill track featuring some of the most legendary MCs ever. I actually need a new copy. Mine is super scratched!

Check the first official video from LA super trio, B.A.D Company aka Bars & Drums, featuring Pawz One, Destruct and Asterix. "Fight Music" was also produced by Asterix and is the lead single to the debut album, Bars and Drums, set to release on November 29, 2011. DJ Limegreen is also on the cuts in this joint. The video was directed by the homey Ryan Spencer.
People have been patiently awaiting the lineup announcement for the 2011 Cypress Hill Smokeout for almost 2 months. It had previously been scheduled to take place on November 5, 2011. However, yesterday it was announced that the festival will now be held on March 3, 2012.
The only acts announced up to this point are Sublime With Rome and of course, Cypress Hill. Stay tuned for more names to be released soon. Below is the official press release.
Guerilla Union, the independent live events company behind world-class
platforms such as ROCK THE BELLS and PAID DUES, announced earlier this
year the return of the annual CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT FESTIVAL. The
festival has been rescheduled to March 3, 2012 at the NOS Events Center
in San Bernardino, CA. All purchased ‘Early Bird’ pre-sale tickets will
be upgraded and honored at the new festival date. Sublime with Rome and
Cypress Hill have signed on for exclusive performances, with many more
artists to be announced soon.
The festival was originally slated to take place on November 5, 2011.
Chang Weisberg, owner and founder of Guerilla Union, states, "Due to
several scheduling conflicts and in an effort to produce the world class
music festival we all expect of this annual extravaganza, more time was
needed to book the best possible show for our fans, artists, and our
patients." All tickets purchased during Guerilla Union’s ‘Early Bird’
pre-sale promotion (that took place from July 16 – July 29 earlier this
year), will be upgraded and honored at the new festival date. Weisberg
adds, "We're also hooking up our fans who bought pre-sale tickets with
an upgrade." Detailed information on ticket upgrades will be relayed to
all ‘Early Bird’ pre-sale ticket purchasers.
This year's CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT FESTIVAL will feature an astounding
and diverse lineup with over two dozen acts on several stages. Already
signed on for exclusive performances are SUBLIME WITH ROME and CYPRESS
HILL with special guests. Sublime with Rome made their debut as the new
musical collaboration between original members Erich Wilson and Bud
Gaugh and lead vocalist Rome Ramirez at the CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT in
2009. Following an international tour in 2010 and a new album release
Yours Truly in July 2011, the trio will make its way back to the stage
where it all began. Festival partners and platinum selling artists
Cypress Hill will be performing alongside special surprise guests. Many
more artists will be announced at a later date.
In addition to the musical aspect, the CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT FESTIVAL is
bringing back the ancillary activations that have made it the unique
and ultimate-destination festival it is today. The Medical Marijuana
Expo will host leading hemp industry exhibits and expert panel
discussions, and the Patient’s Only Zen Garden will provide peace and
privacy for California registered medical marijuana patients. There will
also be a Massive Munchie Garden, interactive vendor village, and much
more. A complete list of activities and attractions will be announced at
a later date.
Tickets for the CYPRESS HILL SMOKEOUT FESTIVAL will be available for
purchase soon. Guerilla Union advises fans to sign up for the official
mailing list on www.smokeoutfestival.com to receive the latest
information, festival updates, and announcements.

Iconic Long Beach record shop VIP Records is the latest to succumb to the declining sales of the industry. It's definitely a new day with music being so easily accessible on the internet, whether it be legal or illegal.
VIP Records owner Kelvin Anderson told the Long Beach Press-Telegram that "VIP will fold by the end of October
if an alternative business plan can't be developed."
VIP Records is definitely one of my favorite record shops, and just adds to the heartbreak after seeing the recent closing of Fat Beats.

One thing that I have not blogged about until now is the NBA lockout. I was pretty much in denial that this would happen. But, it has now come to the point that the first two weeks of the 2011-12 season have now been cancelled.
The owners and players are in a struggle to come to an agreement on revenue split. It is a very good chance that the season could be lost all together.Hopefully they reach an agreement pretty soon after last season's many twists and turns. A full NBA season lost would set the sport back a few years.

On September 29, we lost a Hiphop pioneer and musical legend in Sylvia Robinson. She passed away from heart failure at the age of 75. Sylvia Robinson was a very diverse writer, singer, producer, and business woman. She founded the first successful Hiphop label, Sugar Hill Records, and is known for the hit single, "Pillow Talk."
Sylvia opened up many doors for the culture, and is widely recognized as the "mother of Hiphop" Her funeral will be on October 11th in Englewood, New Jersey at Community Baptist Church.
