The jury in the Oscar Grant case has decided on giving his killer, former BART officer Johannes Mehserle a break by deciding on Involuntary Manslaughter. That verdict carries a 2-4 year prison sentence. I will not be surprised if he ends up serving less than a year.
This is a total outrage, however, I am far from surprised. We wanted justice, and got far from it. But..what else is new. I'd imagine that Mehserle will be kept from general public because his racist ass will get killed in prison! I'm sure there will be a re-trial and civil suit to come. We shall see what's to come from here.
Many people are expecting riots in LA and Oakland. Let's hope that cooler heads prevail, because that is not the answer, though it is highly understandable.
