The Wolf Moon Is Tonight!

Tonight will be the first full moon of the year, which is considered the Wolf Moon. It got it's name from old old Native American belief that hungry wolves would howl at the moon. This is where the concept of the werewolf came along. Each month has a different full moon name. It will be 14% wider and 30% brighter than your average full moon. Gilbert Arenas & Javaris Crittenton Suspended Remainder of NBA Season

Due to the bad decisions made by Washington Wizard guards Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton, they have both been suspended by the NBA without pay for the remainder of the NBA season. This decision was made by comissioner David Stern, and it comes in the wake of Arenas and Crittenton both bringing unlicensed guns into the Wizards locker room and drawing them on each other. The dispute was over a gambling debt.

Now the guns were unloaded, however, just the fact that they would be stupid enough to do so justifies this punishment to me. Arenas is facing up to six months in jail after pleading guilty to carrying a pistol in Washington, D.C., without a license. Sentencing is March 26.

The Wizards could try to void Arenas' contract if he goes to jail. He was making $16 million this season and has four seasons left at $80 million.With this suspension, Arenas will lose over $ 7 million this year.

Crittenton was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation and community service after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge.

Lakers Honored by President Obama

On Monday the LA Lakers had the honor of visiting President Obama while they were in town to play the Washington Wizards the following night. Obama honored the team for achievements on and off the court.

"Nobody exemplifies excellence in basketball better than the Los Angeles Lakers," Obama said. "I want to congratulate everybody who helped make this team what it is, from the assistants to the front office staff to the trainers and the ticket-takers, all the fans back in LA who bleed purple and gold.
"You all should be very proud."

He was giddy to meet Phil Jackson, whom he's been a fan of since Phil coached the Chicago Bulls in the 90's; and also praised players for their contribution to Haiti for earthquake relief, most notably Pau Gasol, who recently donated $20,000. President Obama also called Kobe Bryant "one of the most competitive players I've ever seen" Magic Johnson was also in attendance, whom Obama joked with about his loss to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the 1991 NBA Finals.

2010 NBA All-Star Starters Selected..Here Are My Picks

First off, many NBA fans are idiots, or else they're just not fans that actually follow the game. This reasoning is due to Allen Iverson being voted in as a starter on the East all-star squad, as well as Tracy McGrady almost being voted to start for the West.

Iverson has been far from an all-star this year, having played a few games as a Memphis Grizzly and the last month or so back with his original team, the Philadelphia 76ers. McGrady, a guard for the Houston Rockets, has been injured all year, however, he's still got loads of fans, especially in China, that voted for him.
 
With that being said, the rest of the picks are good to go. The reserves will be chosen by NBA coaches and announced this Thursday.

R.I.P. Apache

Anthony Teaks, AKA Apache was pronounced dead today. It is reported that he died of a protracted illness. He was a popular MC in the 90s, most notably for his joint, "Gangsta Bitch." Apache was signed to Tommy Boy Records and was also a part of Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit. Check the video!

Bizarre: Whites-Only Basketball League

The audacity of Don "Moose" Lewis shows that racism in America is still alive and well as ever. Lewis, a former pro wrestling promoter, is forming the All American Basketball League (AABA), which bans any person of color, as well as foreign born players. Lewis states that "Only players that are natural born United States citizens with both parents of Caucasian race are eligible to play in the league." 

Wow! I can't believe that this is for real yo! Dude claims that racism has nothing to do with it. He goes on to say, "There's nothing hatred about what we're doing," Lewis said. "I don't hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now. Here's a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of "street-ball" played by "people of color."


Well, the NBA definitely doesn't have anything to worry about, and I doubt it will even happen, but Lewis' plans for the AABA are to start it up in June and have teams in 12 cities.

The video was shot and directed by Sebastian Bleak. "Wake Up" is a real smooth joint with a mid-90's feel that's featured on their 2008 release, Algorhythm.
