Congrats to The LA Lakers!!
Man...last night was one crazy game! My Lakers were looking dead in the water halfway through the 4th quarter. Boston was defending Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol extremely hard, but the team continually pounded the offensive boards. And even worse, the Lakers bricked half of their free throws. When going down by 13, I honestly started having some doubts about a Laker win.
However, Ron "I wanna thank my hood" Artest stepped it up big all game hitting some huge shots for 20 points and playing some killer defense, chipping in with 5 steals. When they went on their run in the last 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter, the Lakers clamped down hard on D and allowed hardly any 2nd chance points by the Celtics. It seemed that Kobe was grabbing every rebound. And before you knew it, they were only down 4 going into the 4th quarter.
The 4th quarter was one of the most nerve wrecking things I've endured in quite some time. Anyone who's ever watched a game with me knows how much I get into it. Upon finally catching the C's and taking the lead, the Lakers were determined not to give it up. It definitely was key that they got Boston in foul trouble very early in the quarter, and they finally started knocking down some free throws, especially Gasol, who made only 2 of his first 7.
The last 3 minutes or so was a see-saw and the Celtics gave their all, hitting some huge shots to stay within range, but huge rebounds and drives by Lamar Odom, three pointers by Derrick Fisher and Artest, free throws by Kobe and Sasha Vujacic clinched it!
Finally the Lakers have once again won back to back, and no better team to beat than the hated Boston Celtics! Phil Jackson has 13 total rings now (11 as coach, 2 as player) and Kobe and D Fish have 5! I will be at the parade on Monday. Hopefully it's all love out there.
The one thing I can't stand about winning the championship are the knuckleheads that think it's a good idea to celebrate by being destructive. There was the usual starting of fires, the rocking of cars, and hoods being jumped up, and some stupid fights. I haven't heard of much more, but it was definitely not as destructive as last year or any of the other previous recent championship years.
