Lakers 2009 Championship Rings

Yesterday the Los Angeles Lakers received the dope rings pictured above for winning last year's NBA championship. The rings were created from a special batch of 15-karat Laker gold by Jason of Beverly Hills. It consists of 15 diamonds weighing in at 2.85 carats.

The ring is molded in the shape of Staples Center and is  said to be worth at least $10,000. Also, each player has an image of his face inscribed on the side of his ring, which is a first. These rings just get more and more ill!

Upon receiving their rings last night, the Lakers went on to win their home opener against the Clippers. Kobe Bryant, Lamar Odom, and Andrew Bynum all looked very impressive.

Events Around LA Today & Tonight!

WE WERE ONCE A FAIRYTALE BY SPIKE JONZE & KANYE WEST

Peep the short film, We Were Once A Fairytale directed by Spike Jonze. It's starring Kanye West, who plays himself. This short was not finished, but it was apparently accidentally uploaded by Kanye on his blog, thinking that it was already finished. His acting skills leave much to be desired, nonetheless, this is an interesting piece with a twist. The full release will debut on iTunes on October 27.

Hip Hop Harry: What a Joke!

My mom recently brought Hip Hop Harry to my attention. Apparently he's pretty much the Hiphop version of Barney. Wow! This is just ridiculous. The show is aimed towards kids 3-6 and airs on TLC and Discovery Kids.

Now I'm all for the use of Hiphop in education, but I'm not feeling this Hip Hop Harry character. This is on some Uncle Tom coon ish if you ask me! I could just see all the old bald head dudes that know nothing about Hiphop discussing what a great idea this is to reach out to the "urban culture."

Contrary to people's belief, not all Hiphop heads wear big baggy jeans, a sideways cap, and a huge medallion. Apparently this show has been around since 2006. I'm surprised I never heard of it. I don't have any kids, but best believe I won't be giving this to any kids in my family!

Music Video: Aceyalone- "Can't Hold Back" ft. Treasure Davis

Peep the new Aceyalone video for his joint "Can't Hold Back" featuring Treasure Davis. This song is featured on his latest LP, The Lonely Ones. I was supposed to be at this video shoot, which took place in Downtown LA a couple of months ago. However, I was given a money making opportunity that I could not pass up. I see alot of the homies up in there! Looks like everyone had a dope time! Peep it!

Video: Amazing 23 Foot Snake!

Check the video below of a 23 foot snake found in a rural part of Indonesia. This video is from 2003, so I'm not sure if it is still alive. This is far from the largest. They previously captured a 32 foot snake years before. And in 2004, it was reported that a 49 foot snake was captured in Indonesia, however it was never proven. Personally, I love snakes, but for all of you with snake phobias, this has got to be your worse nightmare!

Happy 99th Birthday Coach Wooden!

Today is Coach John Wooden's 99th birthday. The Hall of Fame coach is known to many as the greatest basketball coach of all time. Wooden was the first to be enshrined in the Hall as both a player and coach. Only two others have achieved such a feat. As coach of UCLA, he won 10 NCAA championships in 12 years.

Wooden is a master motivator and is just as popular as a public speaker. He has always been very gracious and humble. Below is Coach Wooden's famous Pyramid of Success. It has been used not only for the structure of sports teams, but also for highly successful businesses.

Blacktop Bio: Clyde Weems

My very good homey from college, Clyde Weems was recently featured in Bounce Mag. The story tells of his struggles through life in the hood and how he overcame the temptations of crime and destruction through basketball. Please read the article. It is very informative and inspiring.

Here is an excerpt:

Through hard work, determination, and a focus that hails from the playgrounds, Clyde Harvey Weems, has earned his stripes on the concrete. Although born in Akron (Ohio), he has been raised as a product of the tough city of Richmond (California).

At 32 years old, he shares his experiences from college to a coast-to-coast journey that puts the rags to riches success stories to shame.

Weems moved from Ohio at the age of six years old when his great-grandfather died in Richmond, CA, and his mother decided to help Clyde’s grandmother. She also felt that it was time for a better opportunity for Clyde, noting that Ohio did not have much to offer.

People Under The Stairs- "Trippin' At The Disco"

Los Angeles' own People Under The Stairs are back with a hot new video. They've always been a throwback to the old school boom bap Hiphop, and this joint is no exception. It was directed by Chris Zamoscianyk and Thes One.Special effects were done by Ryan Fitzgerald.
Here's the description of the video on Youtube:

In March of 1980 two young rappers from los angeles appeared on the "Chikara Kurahashi Hit Station" variety show in Tokyo. It was the first time rap music had ever been performed in Asia and here is the lost tape of that performance. Enjoy this lost performance transferred from Beta - People Under The Stairs "Trippin' at the Disco
