Coachella 2009 Lineup Announced!
I'd probably have the most fun on Saturday, but hopefully I get the hookup for the whole weekend. I usually never have the money to actually pay. One cool thing they're doing this year though is a layaway plan. U can put down 50% now and pay the rest come time for the show. That's a cool deal yo. One thing is that they're doing less and less Hiphop every year. The only Hiphop acts I see are Public Enemy, Lupe Fiasco, Atmosphere, K'Naan, and People Under The Stairs. However, I get down with all genres, so there's quite a few other acts that catch my eye

NBA All-Star Reserves Announced
So, I was damn near dead on with my NBA All-Star Picks. I went 12 for 12 on the West. Times like this make me feel like I should have bet on it. I went 8 for 12 in the East, such as AI. I don't think AI would have made it had he not been voted in as a starter by the fans. There are too many more deserving guards in the East. I had Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Michael Redd, and David Lee instead of Jameer Nelson, AI, Rashard Lewis, and Paul Pierce.

Lil' Wayne Goes Rock
This is a video of Lil' Wayne debuting his new rock song, "Prom Queen". Now I'm not surprised by this at all. I definitely saw it coming. It was obvious that Lil' Wayne, just like Kanye, wants to be not just a rapper, but a rockstar. I'm not really feelin this though. I'm sure even some of his most hardcore fans will be scratching their heads, but he'll win over some more lil teeny boppers. Well..more power to him. Peep it

Just a few days ago, a So Cal woman yet to be identified gave birth to 8 kids, better known as octuplets. When I heard that, I was buggin like yo..that's insane! But now a report comes out stating that she's already got 6 kids! Even worse, they're all living with her parents! If she's not still with the daddy of the octuplets, it would take a special special dude to wanna get with a woman that's got 14 kids! All I know is that I couldn't do it. But word..peep the video below..

Paid Dues Festival 2009 Lineup Announced!

Now in it's 4th year, the Paid Dues festival is back. This has been a dope independent Hiphop festival, and expanded into a national tour last year. I'm feeling the lineup, and I look forward to being there. Below is the press release.
News Update January 27, 2009
MURS 3:16 IN ASSOCIATION WITH GUERILLA UNION PRESENT 4th ANNUAL "PAID DUES" INDEPENDENT HIP-HOP FESTIVAL
SATURDAY, MARCH 28 AT THE NOS EVENTS CENTER IN SAN BERNARDINO, CA
WITH PERFORMANCES BY ATMOSPHERE, TECH N9NE, LIVING LEGENDS, BROTHER ALI, B-REAL, GROUCH & ELIGH, EYEDEA & ABILITIES, CAGE, BLU & EXILE, LMNO, AND HOSTED BY 2MEX
GUERILLA UNION PRESALE STARTS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28 GENERAL ON-SALE STARTS SATURDAY, JANUARY 31
The "PAID DUES" INDEPENDENT HIP-HOP FESTIVAL--presented by MURS 3:16 in association with Guerilla Union (Rock The Bells, Cypress Hill Smoke Out)--will return Saturday, March 28 to the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino, CA for the fourth consecutive year. Named "Independent hip-hop's premiere festival" by SOHH.COM, the festival supports this genre of music where advanced lyricism, stinging political commentary and quality DJ performances flourish in a seemingly parallel universe. The 2009 lineup will feature performances from ATMOSPHERE, TECH N9NE, LIVING LEGENDS, BROTHER ALI, B-REAL, GROUCH & ELIGH, CAGE, BLU & EXILE, EYEDEA & ABILITIES, LMNO, DJ VAL THE VANDAL, VERBS AND THE BAYLIENS; the event will be hosted by 2MEX.
"This year's Paid Dues line-up is very special to me because we have acts like Tech N9ne and Atmosphere who I've been big fans of and also trying to book forever. The So-Cal return of E & A, who haven't played the NOS since the legendary Wu Tang reunion at the 2004 Rock The Bells. Cage, B-Real and G & E who all have new records dropping this spring. And there's nothing like being the first to see your favorite artist do their new material. On the other side of things, myself and the entire GU staff will be diligent to provide the same high quality live music experience Guerilla Union has become known for over the years. I just can't believe this is our fourth year! I am so thankful to all our family, friends and supporters. And I look forward to making this March 28th another great and memorable moment in hip hop history," states Murs.
Chang Weisberg of Guerilla Union adds, "Now into the fourth year, we are extremely proud that we have continued to partner with Murs to showcase and support independent hip-hop year-in and year-out. We are truly committed to providing our fans the best show and experience that we can possibly put together. This year's lineup represents some of the most notable and up-and-coming artists from the independent circuit. Fans will also be treated to new music from several acts as the festival maintains to be a live promotional platform for the artists that we work with. I can't wait to see all these acts. I truly believe this is the biggest and best line-up yet for PAID DUES."
PAID DUES is an all-ages show. The Guerilla Union ticket pre-sale will begin on Wednesday, January 28 for registered Guerilla Union members. Tickets will be available via Ticketmaster online and at all locations starting Saturday, January 31.
This year's installment of PAID DUES follows the festival's third sold-out annual Southern California event in 2008 which featured artists such as Sage Francis, Little Brother, Hieroglyphics, Buckshot of the Boot Camp Clik and Yak Ballz. 2008 also saw the festival make stops in New York, NY, Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Denver, CO. In 2006 the first PAID DUES festival--with a line-up featuring Felt, Aesop Rock, Living Legends, El-P, Hangar 18 and more--sold out with over 5,000 concert goers packing the Shrine Expo Center in Los Angeles. The following year MURS and Guerilla Union, along with performers Felt, Living Legends, Sage Francis, Brother Ali and others--teamed up again for the PAID DUES festival tour for over ten dates across the country.

Clips wouldnt be half bad if ever healthy
Well as usual the Clippers are horrible. They have a whole 10 wins so far this season, and their 4 best players are out with injury. Of course the word healthy doesn't agree with Marcus Camby and Baron Davis. They have definitely proven to be injury prone throughout the majority of their careers. Chris Kaman has been out for the majority of the season, and their latest additions Zach Randolph and Marty Collins are both out.
I was trippin out watching one of their games the other day yo. They had 3 freakin bench players! So in the meantime, they've only got two legitimate starters in super rookie Eric Gordon and 2nd year up and comer Al Thornton. Both of those players have the green light right now. Last week Gordon dropped 41 and Thornton 38 against the horrible Thunder. 3 of their 10 wins have been against them.
Now if ever healthy, the Clips could be a playoff team. Its too late this year though. I think I'm gonna start using them on NBA 2K9. With a starting lineup of Baron, Gordon, Thornton, Randolph, and Camby or Kaman that would do some damage.
In the absence of the centers rookie D'Andre Jordan has proven that he could produce and be a decent backup. I'd imagine Camby or Kaman would be traded. They got Camby in a steal, and he's been rebounding like a beast, but his injury history is just too much. Plus Kaman has a huge contract that would have to be matched. With Ricky Davis, Collins, and sharpshooter Steve Novak coming off the bench as well they could go pretty deep.
They still couldn't see my Lakers, but they'd be able to compete with the likes of Portland, Utah, Phoenix. This is a lost season though. So quite possibly they'll get another quality draft pick, though they don't need to get any younger.
However, the Clippers are who they are. They've got a sick culture of losing that may never change until they get new ownership or else find a new location. Only time will tell.

Bynum gets nasty on Clips, Kobe Nets 2nd triple double in 3 games

Well, last night Andrew Bynum had his coming out party in the Lakers 108-97 win over the Clippers. This kid was not to be dealt with against the lowly Clips. The Lakers were the "road" team in Staples Center last night, though they obviously had the majority of the fans. Bynum went off for a career high 42 points, to go along with 15 boards and 4 blocks! Of cours it helped that there was no Marcus Camby, Zach Randolph, or Chris Kaman, but it's still impressive and is just a glimpse of how dominent Bynum will be in years to come.
Kobe and co. kept feeding him the ball, and he went on to shoot 17-24 from the field and 8-11 from the foul line. Pretty nice! Bynum is the first Laker other than Kobe to score over 40, since Shaq did it in 2003. He did let Clippers rookie backup DeAndre Jordan go for career highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds though. We can't be having that.
Kobe put up a nice stat line of 18 points, 10 boards, and 12 dimes. Black Mamba has been dishing his ass off as of late! Lamar was nice as well with 19-9. So now the Lakers are 33-8, tied for first overall with Orlando. Washington comes to town tonight. They must be annihilated!

Happy Obama Day!

"A New Birth of Freedom"
I got quite a few texts today in celebration of the inauguration. I did end up working, but I did not have to go in until 11:30, so I had time to watch the whole ceremony. Indeed it is a great thing to see Barack officially become President Obama. I'm sure my brother and my sister in law are having a ball out there in DC, along with all the other millons in attendance. It must be something to actually be in the presence of such an event. Like everyone else, I never thought this could happen. Now, come tomorrow, it's time to get down to business. Peace to the 44th President!

Lakers Show & Prove vs. Cavs!

The Lakers put a hurting on those boys from Cleveland tonight with a 105-88 win. That's just what the squad needed after losing two straight to the Spurs and the Magic. Also, Lebron and Co. had won the last four meetings. Lebron was held in check for the majority of the game. Kobe didn't have to do a huge amount of scoring. He dished the ball like crazy, which is something he's been doing as of late. He finished with 20 points, 12 dimes, and 6 boards. Nice! Pau and Andrew dominated the inside. Pau put up 22 and 12 boards. Andrew had 14, but only 6 boards. That boy is too big not to be getting double digit rebounds every night! Odom pulled 10 his damn self! But word, Sasha was nice, as well as Trevor. This was a huge win! Keep it up now!

Happy King Day! One More Day To Inauguration
Wow, what a day tomorrow will be. I don't plan on working, as well as many other people. Apparently there was something going around that all black people were planning on not working or going to school tomorrow in order to watch the inaugural process. Well, I don't believe in some big conspiracy theory of a plan, but indeed many people are doing just that. There are plenty of non-blacks that will be skipping out on work and school as well though.
Martin Luther King, Jr. is smiling down on what's happening. But we must not get all caught up in the euphoria. It is a tough task that Obama has ahead of him, and many people's expectations are waaay to high. So, just welcome the brotha in, let him get caught up to speed, and realize that our economic situation and our worldly perception will not change overnight yo.
Below is Barack's weekly address, a video of him announcing the Organize for America initiative, and some clips from the inaugural celebration that went down yesterday. Peace

Girls high school basketball team gets whooped 94-1
Wow, when I heard that score I was buggin out yo! I understand that teams can get blown out like that. Heck, I played on a team in 8th grade with a bunch of 9th graders. We weren't all that good and ended up being matched up once with a traveling team that had been together for a few years. These fools were throwing behind the back passes, alley oops, and the whole nine. We felt like we were in a Harlem Globetrotters game. We ended up losing something like 100-30. But man..to lose 94-1! How does not one person score a field goal yo, or at least some more free throws! Anyways, you can peep the story below. Peace
Greeley girls basketball team beats Boulder school 94-1
A Greeley girls basketball team prevented a league opponent from scoring a single field goal Tuesday night en route to a 94-1 victory.
Frontier Academy, a charter school in west Greeley, led 48-0 at halftime against Boulder's Justice High School, which is designed to educate at-risk youth.
Justice scored on a free throw in the third quarter.
"I've had 100 points scored on me before, and I think it's important to respect the game and to respect your opponent," Frontier Academy head coach Nathan Buxman said this morning in a phone interview. "We show the most respect for our opponents by continuing to play hard."
Buxman said his team never used any kind of a pressure defense and stayed in a man-to-man, half court defense. He rotated five girls into the game every four minutes once the score became lopsided.
"We weren't aggressive trying to steal the ball, but if they threw the ball away, we'd intercept it," Buxman said.
He said he's coached games in the past where he's been on the losing end of a lopsided game and it was troubling when the opponent mercifully adjusted the way they played because of the score.
"I wanted to respect effort on their part," Buxman said of the Justice team. "I told the girls 'if you see good effort, good hustle, tell them that.'"
Buxman said he had a good interaction with the Justice head coach during and after the game.

Mark Sanchez declares to go pro..Pete Carroll makes a fool of himself
Much to the surprise of coach Pete Carroll, USC quarterback Mark Sanchez delared yesterday to enter into the NFL draft. Carroll made it clear that he felt that Sanchez was making a mistake and just looked like a selfish little kid. I agree with Sanchez's decision. He is the 2nd best quarterback available, with Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford planning to stay. His stock is higher than it would be after next season going out with those guys on the table. He also spent a full four years and is about to get his degree. Pete Carroll was a straight up hater in this situation. Now Sanchez may not be exactly ready, but I doubt he'll be starting wherever he does get drafted. Peep the video..peace

BART Cop Arrested In Oscar Grant Shooting
Finally the cop that killed Oscar Grant on New Years day in Oakland has been arrested for homicide. Former officer Johannes Mehserle was taken into custody yesterday. He was located in Nevada. I blogged about this last week, and I feel it took way too long for action to be taken because the video is clear as day that Grant was unarmed, cuffed, and not resisting. If Mehserle is not persecuted to the fullest, then something is wrong. Below I posted a clip from The Young Turks youtube channel about the issue.
Check out this video from the protest of the situation, also a dedications song featuring Mistah Fab and Zumbi of Zion I:

Sir Charles Given The Boot By T-Mobile
In the wake of Charles Barkley's recent DUI arrest and confirmed blood alcohol content being well over the limit, T-Mobile has decided to stop airing the hilarious Charles Barkley and Dwayne Wade Fave 5 commercials. That really sucks, because greatly enjoyed the latest ones with Yao Ming and with the old schoolers. I surely hope that Charles doesn't lose his job with TNT, of which he is currently on a leave of absence. I guess we shall see. In tribute, I have posted all of the commercials. 107 Year Old Virgin Looking To Marry & Experience Sex
Yo, I just heard a rather interesting story on the radio earlier today about Wang Guiying. She is 107 years old and is a virgin! The 40-year old virgin ain't got nuttin on that yo! Apparently she stuck to the belief of no sex before marriage, because she has never been married either. Ms. Guiying stated that she avoided marriage because in her younger years all of the married women in her family and in her presence were constantly beat by their husbands, and it was accepted. She did not want to put up with that, so decided she would rather not be married. Now at 107, she feels the want to marry a younger guy in his 90's or early 100's. She's got people searching for suitors in old folks homes in China, which is where she resides. Ms. Guiying also stated a desire to want to give sex a try. So, I'm wishing her the best of luck that she finds her man. He'd better be damned understanding yo! Also, they better make it quick!

Beastie Boys Art on Display @ Gallery 1988

For all the Beastie headz out there, gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is paying tribute to the Beastie Boys with several pieces that have been interpreted from 100 different artists. It is entitled Under The Influence: The Official Art Tribute To The Beastie Boys. The Beasties chose for a portion of the proceeds to go to Gramercy Housing Group. I've actually never heard of this gallery, but I'm gonna head on out there sometime this week. The exhibit just opened on January 8 and goes up until January 29. So get out there and check it out before it's gone!

Let Gaza Live Protest in Los Angeles 12PM!

ALL OUT For Tomorrow's Mass March in L.A.
"LET GAZA LIVE!"
National Day of Emergency Action
Saturday, January 10, 12 noon
Westwood Federal Building
11000 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles (at Veteran)
Click here for map and directions
(Updated carpool, parking & other logistical info below)
Momentum is building for L.A.'s Regional Mass March and Rally to Let Gaza Live. Help us show the most solidarity we can for the Palestinian people. Please bring friends, family, coworkers, students and everyone who believes in justice to march together in L.A. for Gaza. Read this email for updates, logistical information and more.
People will gather at the Westwood Federal Building in Los Angeles at 12 noon. The Federal building is the seat of the U.S. government in L.A., the same government that supplies $15 million per day of military and economic aid to Israel.
At 1pm, there will be a mass march through Westwood. The march is fully permitted. Families and people of all ages are encouraged to attend.
Tomorrow's march will be a strong expression against the U.S.-Israeli massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. There will be a children's contingent to represent the hundreds of children who have been killed by Israeli bombs.
There will be a funeral procession with coffins draped with Palestinian flags, along with a symbolic die-in to illustrate the carnage inflicted by the U.S.-Israeli war machine. We will march by the headquarters of Occidental Petroleum, an massive oil corporation that has strong economic ties to Israel. After the march, a rally with speakers will begin back at the Federal Building.
Carpools are coming from all over Southern California to the march and rally. See a partial list below.
Now two weeks into the murderous U.S.-Israeli assault on Gaza, the wanton destruction of Palestinian life continues without pause. While the world responded in outrage to the Israeli bombing of a UN school in Gaza, which took the lives of dozens of children, still more atrocities continue unabated.
A U.N. agency said Israeli troops forced 110 Palestinian civilians to move to a house in Gaza City on Jan. 4, then shelled the building 24 hours later, killing 30 people. Although the Israeli military has imposed a complete media blackout, and is now firing on media that dares to report from Gaza, chilling photos have still made their way to the web, showing what the grotesque invasion really looks like on the ground. These photos make it clear that the entire Palestinian people, not just Hamas, are under attack.
We stand at a critical moment in history. For all people who believe in justice, there is nothing more important than joining the National Day of Action to "Let Gaza Live" in Los Angeles tomorrow.

Johannes Mehserle is a cold blooded murderer!
I am so disgusted by what happened in Oakland on New Years Day. Oscar Grant Hill III was murdered in front of hundreds of people while complying to police for something he did not even do. I heard the story earlier, but I just decided to watch the video
The officer who shot him is named Johannes Mehserle. They claim it was an accident but it sure don't look like it to me
Attached is a video of what happened. After that is the story. This really hurts to see that something like this happened with so many witnesses around. If that cop is not charged with murder, there will definitely be riot!
There will be a protest in Oakland today

So Much For That Win Streak

Well, just after I blog about the Lakers being on a roll, the Celtics lose again. And it's to one of the worst teams in the league..the Bobcats! However, the Lakers could not capitalize and get a win over the Hornets. They let David West go nuts for 40 points and 11 boards. But hey, at least they lost to a good team. So their home win streak ended at 16 and overall at 6. Time to start a new one tonight with a win over Golden State!

Lakers Are Tops
The Lakers are the illest and the realest team in the league. Boston has lost 4 of their last 6 and Cleveland has stumbled as of late too. Meanwhile the Lakers are on a 6 game win streak, hoping to make it 7 tonight with a win over the New Orleans Hornets. So far this year the Lakers have owned them, blowing them out twice on their own home court. Kobe and Pau have been playing consistent killer b-ball and the supporting cast has been on point. Defense has been much better since the win over Boston. We just gotta keep it rolling yo. Luke is out for at least a couple weeks and Jordan about a month. The team is so deep though that it shouldn't hurt too much. Let's try and top Boston's 19 game win streak this year!
